BECOME A TIME TRAVELLER
In just an hour and a half, walk through a thousand years of human history: from an Anglo-Saxon tower nearly 1,000 years old to a contemporary (and controversial) clock that doesn’t even tell the time properly. Hear about the centuries-old colleges where Newton worked on his theory of gravity, where Stephen Hawking explored the nature of time, and where Alan Turing developed ideas about complex computing systems. Visit the pub where one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century was announced. Marvel at some of the finest examples of Gothic and Neoclassical architecture in the country. Inspiring, baffling, and downright outrageous: Cambridge is a city full of stories waiting to be told.
THE STUDENT’S STORY
Cambridge is nothing without its students, and it’s the students who make our walking tours so special. Combining a deep passion for the city’s history and architecture with the knowledge and experience of an insider, all our tour guides are either graduates or current students of the University of Cambridge. You hear all about what the students really get up to – from “college parents” to lavish May Balls and the dreaded all-nighters in-between. Which college is the poshest one, and which is the richest? Which one had a communist flag in its bar? This is a real Cambridge walking tour as experienced from within the college walls.
Our classic 90-minute Cambridge walking tour covers some of the following highlights:
- King’s Parade
- Corpus Clock
- The Eagle Pub
- The Old Cavendish Laboratory
- Corpus Christi College
- The Mathematical Bridge
- King’s College and the Backs
- Trinity College
- St. John’s College
- The Senate House…famous town stories, and more…
This is a shared outdoor walking tour conducted in English. Access to certain structures along the tour route is sometimes included in your ticket price as an extra. However, college access varies from day to day, so we cannot always guarantee entry to specific colleges. If there are particular colleges you wish to visit, we recommend booking a private tour for your group here.
